What to do near annoying ear problem?

my husbands ear is bothering him. he says it doesnt really hurt its only feels approaching it needs to pop or something and whe he consultation he hears an boom.. he will probably go to the dr. within the morning he just cant receive off work tonight and requirements some relief! appreciation for any advice!
